I ask you to pair with another student in the same section, will assign you a due date and will suggest a topic. Feel free to "pitch" a topic of your own.

The best way to gauge what makes a good blog post is to read a bunch and judge what works. There's a list of economics blogs in the right column of this web site. In general a post for this course should not have pages of text, as those browsing it may not actually read multiple paragraphs of prose. In contrast it's appropriate to include graphs or a table of data. As with a (good) paper, a blog post makes a claim or poses a question. Remember, the purpose of the course blog is to foster discussion. After reading your draft post, what sorts of comments or followup questions would you anticipate? If the answer is "none" or "puzzlement" then perhaps you need to revise it!

  • After posting on the course blog, you should follow and respond to the comments.
  • Graphs should include a live link. That constitutes a citation of your source, though it's good to also add where you found it in prose.

  • Make sure you sign your post at the top with both your names
  • See the accompanying guide to html code, how to format a post. I will also demonstrate in class. You also can save a draft, and email me with queries about how to make it more readable – some graphs require resizing or other tweaks.
  • Have fun with your posts – you want to catch readers' attention. Unlike with formal academic papers, cute blog titles aren't inappropriate.
